On Friday, December 2, 2022, the Cedar Red’s Speech and Debate team traveled with Coach Maher to Desert Hills High School in St. George for a tournament. Other schools in attendance were Hurricane, Beaver, Crimson Cliffs, Snow Canyon, and Canyon View High School. There were 12 events, which included: Congress, Big Question, Lincoln Douglass, Policy, Public Forum, Domestic Extemp, Foreign Extemp, Impromptu, Informative, Interps, Original Oratory, and SPAR.
Top scorers from Cedar were:
Dawson Marriott 2nd place in Congress
Natalie Anderson 3rd place in Informative
Lelia Karmeli 3rd place in Impromptu
Olivia McLean and Faith Dicus 3rd place for Public Forum
Samuel Nankervis 2nd place in SPAR
This completed the circuit which included the Red’s Ruckus Tournament held at Cedar High School in November, where the Reds took a victorious first place. The Reds were hoping to also win this tournament making them Circuit champions. Despite missing some of their high-scoring key performers this time around, Cedar placed 2nd for the Desert Hills Tournament and ended up in 2nd for the Circuit.
The Reds are hoping to bring back another win at the upcoming Moab tournament on December 16th and 17th.
